If you were to ask for the name of one of Michigan's most respected attorneys - who concentrates his practice on complex business and commercial litigation, alternative dispute resolution and class action cases - one name, which would undeniably surface, is that of Richard C. Kaufman.

Mr. Kaufman brings to his legal practice years of experience as a Wayne County Circuit Court Judge from 1981-1996, and as the Court's Chief Judge from 1986-1994. During that time, he was honored by numerous organizations, including the State Judicial Council, the State Bar of Michigan, the Detroit Bar Association, the Wolverine Bar Association and the Israel Bond Foundation. He was ranked as one of the best judges in Michigan by Detroit Monthly magazine and Michigan Lawyer's Weekly.

During Mr. Kaufman's tenure as Chief Judge, the Wayne County Circuit Court was nationally recognized for improving from one of the least efficient urban trial courts in the United States to one of the most efficient. Mr. Kaufman has served as Presiding Judge of the Wayne County Citizen's Grand Jury and Visiting Judge on the Michigan Court of Appeals in 1986 and 1991. He also served on the Advisory Board of the Institute for Court Management of the National Center for State Courts.

Mr. Kaufman has spoken before hundreds of professional organizations, and his articles have appeared in publications ranging from the Detroit News and Detroit Free Press to various legal and business trade journals. He also frequently acts as a mediator and is often appointed by various courts to serve as a Special Master or Receiver.
